Departmental Domain Email Service on CalMail

Bernie Tower, IST–WSS

CalMail, the campus email server, is now offering a new service to the campus. The new Departmental Domain Email Service is available to academic departments and administrative units that want to use the CalMail system as their email provider, but wish to retain their own unique domain name (e.g., user@comedy.berkeley.edu instead of user@calmail.berkeley.edu). This service is uniquely suited to departments who are currently running their own mail server and would like to discontinue this effort, but need to keep the domain name that identifies them.

These domains are maintained on the CalMail system, which has 24x7 support from several departments in IST. They enjoy the same features as the CalMail domain, which include spam and server-side filtering, virus protection, consulting via phone and email, and two webmail interfaces. Additionally, we will soon have a recharge service in place that will allow departmental domain administrators to increase storage capacity on their accounts.

To apply for this service, go to the forms page (http://uas.berkeley.edu/forms/index.html) on the User & Account Services website (http://uas.berkeley.edu/) and download the Departmental Domain Email Service Application. Once the application has been approved, a CalMail representative will call you to start the creation of the domain.
