Interim Technology Program Office director announced

Shel Waggener, Chief Information Officer

This past spring, the Office of the CIO began a search to fill the Technology Program Office (TPO) director position. Although the search resulted in a good pool of both internal and external candidates, we have not been able to fill the position. In reviewing our candidate pool and our needs in the coming year, including the startup of several campuswide multiyear technology projects, I believe it is critical to fill this important leadership position before the start of the fall semester. I have discussed the goals and objectives of the group with Peggy Huston, a member of the Technology Program Office, and am very pleased to announce that she has agreed to step into the role in an interim capacity for the next 18 months. Her strong leadership and management skills will help establish the important foundational processes and programs that are needed in the coming years as the campus embarks on numerous major technology initiatives.

Peggy brings to the position nearly 20 years of experience in IT and Business Management during which time she has overseen a wide variety of technology projects. She started with UC Berkeley in the IST–CNS unit seven years ago where she managed the desktop support group and special projects internal to CNS. This past year, she has served as the Business Process Lead for the IST Transition Team which facilitated the IST reorganization efforts. Peggy has a BS in Business Administration/Computer Science and earned her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2005. She is currently pursuing her MBA and expects completion in 2008.

Peggy will oversee the three closely related but distinct groups of the TPO organization:

In her new role, Peggy will immediately begin working with the TPO group to refine their goals and objectives for 2007–2008.

Please join me in congratulating Peggy on her new role.
