"CalAgenda Tips" is a regular feature
of BC&C for people on campus who are using the CalAgenda online calendar
service (http://calagenda.berkeley.edu/) or just want to learn more
about the service. Not all topics will be of interest to all readers;
some topics may be too basic for some readers and others too technical,
but we hope to address the concerns and issues of as broad a segment of
the campus community as possible. If you have suggestions for topic
ideas, please send email to
.
Oracle Calendar, the software used by the CalAgenda online calendar service, allows users with Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) such as Palms and PocketPCs to synchronize their CalAgenda data with the calendar data on their PDA. They may also use the Oracle Calendar Tasks and Addresses features if desired. (Most users prefer their PDAs' built-in to-do lists and address books.)
Oracle Corporation recently purchased the company developing CorporateTime software and has begun a transition to the name Oracle Calendar. Some products have the new Oracle name, and some still have the previous name of CorporateTime or CorporateSync.
Look at the CalAgenda software page (http://calagenda.berkeley.edu/software/) under the heading "Software Documentation". The documentation released by the vendor for the software version on the site can be found here.
When CorporateSync (or Oracle Sync) for the Palm is installed, it may become the default method for synchronizing address books, to-do lists, and your calendar. If you would like to continue your PDA's own address book and to-do list, follow the instructions for your platform below.
For Mac OS users. When CorporateSync (or Oracle Sync) for the Palm is installed, it will move the Palm Datebook, ToDo, and Address conduits to the Disabled Conduits, thus disabling them. To continue using the Palm ToDo list or Address features, you will need to switch the respective Palm and Oracle Calendar conduits. Do the following:
Note for Mac OS X users: Currently, the Oracle Sync 9.04 Beta does not install an Address conduit, although it does move the Palm Address conduit into the Disabled Conduits folder. To continue using the Palm Address conduit, move it from the Disabled Conduits folder to the Conduits folder as described above.
For Windows users. Note that the instructions on the Using a Palm with CalAgenda page (http://calagenda.berkeley.edu/help_training/usersguide/newpalm/index.html) are out of date for Windows users.

Make sure that syncing is functional in other areas. One reason syncing may not be occurring is if the user name in the desktop software does not match the user name in the PDA.
If you are using version 3.07 of CorporateSync for the Pocket PC or the Palm OS for Windows, or CorporateSync for Palm 9.0.4 Beta for Mac OS X, we currently know of two situations where syncing will fail due to bugs in the software:
In these situations, you will need to use your User ID (UID) in the Pocket PC settings. To find out your user ID, have your CalAgenda departmental support provider contact CalAgenda Admin at .
Despite these problems, version 3.07 has two new features that should be worth the upgrade: it will synchronize repeating meetings provided they fall within the date range of your synchronization settings, and it no longer requires administrator access to perform syncing.
First be sure you are using the latest version of Microsoft's ActiveSync (http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/activesync36.asp).
Download and install CorporateSync for the Pocket PC 3.07 (Windows) from http://calagenda.berkeley .edu/software/. After installation, the "Synchronization Settings" dialog will appear. (If it doesn't, you can select this dialog via the Start Menu under the "CorporateSync for Pocket PC/CorporateSync 3.0 for Pocket PC Settings" item.) The first screen below shows the synchronization settings for CorporateSync for the Pocket PC. Enter your CalAgenda user name, password, the server name (calagenda.berkeley.edu), and node (calagenda) under the Sign-in/Settings.

The next step is to establish a connection between the Pocket PC and the desktop. Open Microsoft ActiveSync and place your device in its cradle. If the connection doesn't automatically begin, select "Get Connected" from ActiveSync's File menu and follow the prompts on the screen. ActiveSync will automatically detect which connection your device's cradle is using. Next you'll be asked if you want to set up a partnership.

Then you can select the partnerships to establish. You may have a partnership with one or two computers. If you set up more than one partnership, you must use the same application or PIM (Personal Information Manager) on each computer for each category of information that you want to keep synchronized. For example, your calendar information must be synchronized using either CorporateSync or MS Outlook for both partnerships.

Select the application you want to use for synchronizing each type of information. If you do not want to sync your address book with CorporateTime, select "Microsoft Outlook" or "None".

Using the check boxes, select the information you do want to synchronize.

The synchronization should start automatically.
