JR Schulden, ISTSIS
On May 31, 2004, the two-year effort to convert the UC Berkeley Student Systems from IDMS to DB2 was completed. Many thanks go to those who worked so hard and so many weekends to make this happen. Special thanks to Caprice Elias (SIS), Truc Nguyen (SIS), Gregg Bartle (SIS), Helen Tu (SIS), Linda Pratt (ASD), Nancy Fan (CCS), Tai-Yen Pao (CCS), and Ting-Ing Ho (CCS). And an extra special thanks to the Offices of the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Admissions for bearing with us, testing tirelessly, and always maintaining a sense of humor.
Ode to Our Work Horse
by Susie Castillo-Robson, UC Berkeley Registrar
There once was an old student system
That grew weary and very resistant
To web applications and new modes of thinking
So out it was tossed without blinking. Now DB2 is our new system
It looks like the old student system
But its innards are agile and ready for action
Now's time for some new applications!Ode to IDMS
by Caprice Elias, IDMS Conversion Project Manager
Oh, this old IDMS database, P-U
"It costs a mint!" complained Registrar Sue
It doesn't do Web
It ought to be dead
So now we are up in DB2
