IBM 9672 OS/390 and IDMS upgrades

Kenny Yip

In the September-October issue of BC&C (see IBM 9672 upgraded to OS/390), Central Computing Services (CCS) announced that the IBM 9672's OS/390 operating system was to be upgraded to Release 1.3. I am happy to say that on December 7 this upgrade was accomplished. The IBM 9672 runs most of the mission-critical administrative applications for the campus. This upgrade, together with the earlier upgrade in May 1997, is part of a continual CCS effort to keep our critical computer systems current and "year 2000 ready," as well as to provide additional functionality for application developers.

For these same reasons, to maintain currency and year 2000 readiness, the IDMS database management system on which most of our student and financial applications depend was also upgraded to Release 12 last month. This upgrade was a joint effort among Student Information Systems (SIS), Administrative Systems Department (ASD), and CCS.
